Methodist men&apos;s group hosing spaghetti dinner The Elizabeth Methodist Church will host a spaghetti dinner April 13 from 3-6 p.m. at the church. The men of the churchare in the kitchen for this event and are hoping to raise money to replace the heating and cooling for the parsonage. The cost of the meal is $6, eat in or carry out and will include spaghetti, salad, bread, desert and beverage. Benefit for Katelyn CottreU's trip to Europe Plans are announced for a benefit bean and combrcad dinner April 10 from noon-6 p.m. to defray costs of Katelyn Cottrell' +rip to Europe this summer. The menu will consist of choice of soup be,;,,. ,:own beans and cornbread, dessert and beverage for a $5 donation. The dinner will be held at the Win County Senior Citizens building in Elizabeth. Take < :t containers will also be available. Also there will be homemade peanut batter and chocolate Easter eggs for sale as well as a 50-50 drawing (need pot be present to win). The eggs can be personalized at the time of purchase. All proceeds go toward the cost of the trip and all donations are appreciated. Pony League baseball sign up set for April 8 Coaches Justin Villers and Toby Ray will be holding a signup session for Wirt County Pony League April 8 at Sportsman's Park in Elizabeth at 5 p.m. for young men ages 13-! 5 to register to play baseball for the league. K of P Cemetery requests flower removal The K of P Cemetery of Elizabeth requests all flowers be removed for the mowing season byApril 10. If they are not removed they will be thrown away. Habitat for Humanity benefit at Parkersburg South There will be a blue grass and BBQ to benefit the Wood County Habitat for Humanity at the Parkersburg South High School Auditorium April 8. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and music will be at 7 p.m. Tickets are $ i 5 for adults, $10 fo students and for children under age 6 there is no charge. Entertainmem for the event includes Buck and Company, The Putnams, Redd Brand and The Young Bluegrass Boys. Concessions will be provided by Wing King Catering. Poker run at Creston to honor Rodney Lynch Creston Community Building Association will sponsor an ATV Poker Run for four-wheelers only April 16. It will be a tribute to Rodney Lynch who helped organize the poker runs for years but lost his battle with cancer this year. Sign up will be from 9 a.m.-noon. The entry fee will be $10 per player hand and will have a payout of 30 percent, 10 percent and 10 percent and riders must return by 6 p.m. to be eligible for payout. All state regulations will be followed. Riders under age 18 must wear a helmet. All score cards must be checked at each station or may be disqualified. Proceeds go to the community building for upkeep and events. Door prizes, 50-50 drawing, T-shirts and concessions will be available. The ride is for leisure and is not a race. The event will include good music, food and fun. Doors open at 11:30 and music starts at noon. Concessions will be sold. Cost is $ I 0 for all day; kids under are 5 free. Music will include Buck and Company, Special Blend, Union Valley, A! Hogan, Connie and Dale Kid, FOG and Michael Smith. Groups that would like to play contact Darlene at 304.494.5843. Youth revival for all ages at Newark Baptist The congregation of Newark Baptist Church will have a youth revival for all ages April 8-9 at 7 p.m. Featured speaker for both nights is Adam Myers, youth pastor from South Parkersburg Baptist Church. Featured singers will be Jeff Johnson and Levi Kirby, both members of Marshall University, Campus Crusade for Christ Praise Team. Levi is from Wirt County. Boy Scout Troop 30 saving aluminum cans Wirt County Boy Scout Troop 30 will attend summer camp at Camp Daniel Boone in North Carolina in June of this year. To help with the rising price of gasoline to get the boys to camp the troop is collecting aluminum cans to recycle for cash. Proceeds will help the members enjoy a week of learning and advancement opportunities while working toward the goal of Eagle Scout. Please help by saving your aluminum cans and donating them for this cause. Gospeling at Mineral Wells for Relay for Life The Mineral Wells School Relay for Life team will host a gospel sing April 16 at 7 p.m. at Mineral Wells Baptist Church and will feature The Gospelaires, Heaven's Rush and The New Life Quartet. A love collection will be taken. Coalition sets community baby shower The Wirt County Change the Future and Tobacco Coalition will host a community baby shower for pregnant mothers and families with babies under 1 year old. There will be lots of informational tables, food, fun and door prizes. VVV offers food, windows, more Visions, Vessels and Victory will be at the Williamson Store in Palestine Wednesdays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. It has a truckload of windows, some robe hooks and stainless steel sinks. Warehouse items are not free but a nominal charge is required to offset costs. Residents can apply for the food pantry and the warehouse. To be a member of the warehouse a resident's income does not matter. In order to be a food pantry client, income does matter. Those who wish to apply for the food pantry should take a copy of proof of income for all the people living in their house. VFW Post, Auxiliary to elect officers VFW Post 6608 and Ladies Auxiliary will meet Tuesday, April 5, meets at 7 p.m. in Elizabeth Baptist Church's fellowship hall. March 30 marks the July, followingthecompletionofhisresidencyprogram. Cub Scout Pack 30 hosts annual banquet Cub Scout pack 30 held its annual Blue and Gold Banquet on March 19. This is a special dinner where each scout receives advancements such as the Tiger, Wolf, Bear and Webelo badges. It's also an oceatlon to celebrate the hard work the scouts have done so far this year. This year the banquet theme was "Cowboys and Indians." In the advancement ceremony Colin Burrough, who is a Tiger cub received his Bobcat badge, progress towards rank totem and three yellow beads. In the Wolf Den there were six scouts with advancements: Andrew Adams, one yellow bead. Austin Dille, three yellow beads, his Wolf badge, one gold arrow patch and one silver arrow. Christian Harrington, three yellow beads, his Wolf badge, one gold arrow and one silver arrow. Luke Murray, three yellow beads, his Wolf badge, one gold arrow and two silver arrows. Nathan Murray, three yellow beads, his Wolf badge, one gold arrow and two silver arrows,. Jacob Startcher, three yellow beads, his Wolf badge, one gold arrow and four silver arrows. Jacob Hunt received his Craltsman, Scientist, Traveler and his Compass Point. Wyatt Summers received his Webelo badge, Citizen, Fitness, Outdoorsman and his Compass Emblem. Four Scouts received the Whittling Chip Award: Gabe Adams, Tyler Booth, Daniel McCIoy and Andrew Saho. To receive the award a scout must complete achievement #19 Shaving and Chips in their handbook, demonstrate knowledge and skill in Inside today Letters to the editor - page 7 Sports - pages 7-8 the use of a pocket knife and take the pocket knife pledge. That earns the scout the privilege of carrying a pocket knife to Cub Scout functions. Scouts and leaders also received their service stars. Those stars show homany years the scout and leaders have been in scouting. There was also a cub/adult dessert auction, which consisted of the scout and his adult partner making a dessert of their choice. Then there is a silent auction in which anyone can bid on the desserts. The money from the event is used to purchase items for the pack such as badges and pins.
