Quinn's 800-meter title
leads Tigers in state meet

Josh Quinn is the ClassA 800-meter
state champion.
The Win County Tiger's time of
2"03.05 was a second and a half better
than Williamstown's Aaron Lockhart
and more than two seconds ahead of
Dominic Rich of Buffalo.
Lockhart was one of the favorites
going into the event, having recorded
a 2:04 during the season.
Quinn had not been under 2:05 this
spring but pulled out his best effort
of the year at the state meet.
He ran a smart race, staying within
striking distance ,of the leaders until
the final 200 meters when he started
his kick.
Once in the lead, Quinn fought off
Lockhart and Rich to claim the state
, fl0e.
Alex Myers was Wirt County High
School's other placer in the state meet
finishing sixth in the discus with a
toss of 120'3".
The Wirt County boys' team
represented themselves, their school,
and their community very well at the
state meet.
Kalob Bell finished ninth in the
3200-meter run, Matt Robert finished
ningh in the 110 high hurdles and 13"
in the 300 intermediate hurdles.
In addition to his state
Championship in the 800 meters
Quinn was seventh in the highly
competitive 400-meter open, running
a very respectable 54.72.
In the relays the 4x800 team finished
ninth, the 4x400 team was 11% and
the shuttle hurdle team f'mished 15".

Wirt County's 4x400 girls' relay team placed fourth in ClassAinthe state track meet in a time of 4:31.63. The
team included Emily Ohrn, Haleigh Gaskins, Morgan Litton and Chelsea Somerville.

The Lady Tigers of Wilt County
scored 9 points at the 37 th West
Virginia State Track and Field
Championships May 20-21 at the
University of Charleston's Laidley
field.
Kelly Bunner placed fourth in the
high jump with a leap of 5'0" feet.
She also just missed placing in the
shot, making the finals but finishing
seventh, just seven inches behind
Gina Marks of Charleston Catholic.
The 4x400 relay also placed at the
meet, scoring a fourth place finish
with atime of-4:31.€.
Members of that relay were Emily
Orhn, Haleigh Gaskins, Chelsea
Somerville and Morgan Litton.
Wirt also placed sixth in the 4x800
relay with a time of ! 1:05.72.
That relay was composed of
Haleigh Gaskins, Brirtani Gaskins,
Celsea Somerville, and Morgan
Litton.
Emily Ohm qualified for the finals
in the 100 meters finishing seventh in
the state.
Also finishing in the top 10 in the
state was Brittani Gaskins in the 3200
meters. Gaskins finished ninth with a
time of 13:25.49.
